Willkommen in Oberstdorf
Die fast 10.000 Einwohner zählende Gemeinde liegt auf einer Meereshöhe von 813 m am südlichsten Zipfel Deutschlands mitten im Herzen der Allgäuer Alpen. Mit einer Fläche von 230 km² ist sie flächenmäßig die drittgrößte Gemeinde Bayerns. Dabei sind fast 75% des Gemeindegebiets Naturschutz- bzw. Landschaftsschutzgebiet. Der größte Teil des Naturschutzgebietes "Allgäuer Hochalpen" liegt auf dem Gemeindegebiet der Marktgemeinde.
Die erste urkundliche Erwähnung stammt aus dem Jahr 1141, als die Pfarrkirche geweiht wurde.
Am 5. und 6. Mai 1865 wütete eine Feuersbrunst, der 146 Häuser zum Opfer fielen.
Ab 1888 war Oberstdorf an die Eisenbahn angebunden.
Der Name der südlichsten Gemeinde Deutschlands erklärt sich eigentlich von selbst.
Oberstdorf war und ist das oberste Dorf im Allgäu.

Welcome to Oberstdorf
The community of almost 10,000 inhabitants lies at an altitude of 813 m above sea level at the southernmost tip of Germany in the heart of the Allgäu Alps. With an area of 230 km² it is the third largest municipality in Bavaria. Almost 75% of the municipal area is a nature reserve or landscape conservation area. The largest part of the nature reserve "Allgäuer Hochalpen" lies on the municipal territory of the market community.
The first documentary mention dates back to 1141, when the parish church was consecrated.
On 5 and 6 May 1865 a conflagration raged and 146 houses were destroyed.
From 1888 Oberstdorf was connected to the railway.
The name of the southernmost community in Germany is self-explanatory.
Oberstdorf was and is the uppermost village in the Allgäu.
