This mystery cache is a three-stage puzzle cache that showcases the confluence of the mouth of the Elk River going into the Kanawha River and features Magic Island. Magic Island was formed from sediment that came out of the Elk River that turned downstream into the Kanawha River and settled along the bank as an island, like a delta. In recent years, the City of Charleston filled in the delta and leveled it out to make a nice local park for various recreational activities. Kanawha is an Indian name and is pronounced as kuh-NAH-wuh.
To find the actual cache at GZ, you'll need to do some deciphering with this field puzzle. Be careful crossing Kanawha Boulevard. There's a crosswalk near the parking area.
At the posted coordinates, you're looking for a plaque. You'll need to use the information on the plaque to determine the coordinates of Stage 2:
1) To determine the North coordinate of Stage 2, ADD the day in the date and the last two digits of the year on the plaque to the number of City Council members on the plaque. ADD this Sum to the decimal part of the posted North coordinate.
2) To determine the West coordinate of Stage 2, MULTIPLY the day on the plaque times the number of the month on the plaque. Then, SUBTRACT 15 from that amount. Then, ADD this Amount to the decimal part of the posted West coordinate.
3) Once you've found the location of Stage 2, ADD the day and the two-digit year together when they fought and ADD that amount to the decimal part of the West coordinate of stage 2. SUBTRACT .002 from the North coordinate of Stage 2. These new North and West coordinates will be the location of GZ. Be mindful of muggles and Good Luck!!!
