Ay, matey! Welcome aboard and
watch that plank! Someone might make you walk it!
It’s back! The Fifth Annual BYO… Buccaneer’s
Booty Bash Before the Big Bash is Back bigger than ever. The Bash
occurs at the above listed coordinates from approximately 6pm to
about 9pm or thereabouts. There are some important changes to this
year’s bash so ya better pay attention to the rest of this
here information!
Things that pirates need to
know:
1) Costume Party! That’s right, there will be a
costume party this year and every person at the BYO—even MOGA
staff--are eligible to win prizes! There is no charge to
participate in the costume contest. To enter, simply wear your best
pirate gear to the BYO Bash! There will be very decent
Buccaneer’s Booty to be awarded to the best costumes in the
adult male, adult female, and youngster categories. We will take
pictures of you in costume at the BYO party. The pictures will be
posted for all to laugh at, er view, during the BYO Bash and that
MOGA thingy which occurs the next day. The costume pictures will be
on display at the Shelter #4 “County Line” Pavilion
(location of the BYO Bash) on Friday night and then at MOGA Central
during the day on Saturday. Other pirates, I mean attendees, will
be allowed to snicker at the pictures and then cast their ballots
during both the BYO and MOGA events. Voting will close before the
MOGA awards ceremony on Saturday night. The winners of the costume
contest will be announced, and the prizes (including 2010 MOGA
Competitor Award Geocoins!) will be awarded to the lucky winning
buccaneers at the MOGA Awards Ceremony. You are encouraged, but not
required, to wear your costume to that awards ceremony. Have fun
with it, and get creative!
2) Please note: MOGA
registration will NOT be located at the BYO party this year.
Register at MOGA Headquarters and then head over to the BYO Bash.
It is a short walk to the Bash unless you are stopped by some
pirates—which very well may happen this year! If you prefer,
there is a certain amount of parking near the BYO Bash pavilion so
your horseless carriage (such as a car, truck, or unicycle) will be
welcome at the BYO party. I believe this pavilion will serve as one
of the competition locations so all you competitive types out there
might be able to scout out the territory.
3) Bring your flashlights!
Yep, the night cache returns again this year. I can’t tell
you much about the night cache because the night cache committee is
being ultra-secretive about their plans, but those plans are
definitely progressing. If you have done the night cache at either
of the last two BYO events, you know this will be fun! You will
want to bring your flashlight to the BYO Bash! The night cache
begins when it is dark enough to do a night cache.
4) Put this event on your watch
list! There may be a few changes before the event occurs,
and we would not want you to miss out on important buccaneer
news!
For those of you new to this
event:
1) The BYO Bash, while not technically part of MOGA, helps
kick off the MOGA weekend. Attendance at MOGA is NOT required to
log this event! The only requirement for logging this event is to
attend the BYO Bash and sign the logbook somewhere in the pavilion
at the Bash.
2) BYO means “Bring
Your Own…” as in bring your own drinks, chairs,
costumes, etc. The BYO gathering will be held at a big pavilion so
there are several picnic tables already in place, but you may want
to bring your own drinks, snacks, and other other goodies.
3) The purpose of the BYO
event is to provide geocachers a single central place to get
together before the big MOGA event which occurs the following
day.
4) While you may certainly
trade travel bugs and trackables among yourselves, we will NOT set
up a dedicated table at the BYO event. There will other
opportunities during MOGA to trade those travel bugs and other
trackables.
5) This event is designed
to be a family event. Please be respectful of others who may attend
with small children. We have never had a problem in the
past—let’s keep it that way this year. Thanks in
advance!
Ok, that’s it! Hopefully, we will see you there!
