Geocache Description:

This cache was placed as part of the Athens County History Geotrail. The incentive is gone, but the cache is still available for finding/logging. Thank you for supporting Athens County geocaches.

The posted coordinates will take you to an area of historical significance. Using information in the immediate area (and possibly at additional waypoints), you will be able to calculate the coordinates for the cache as follows:

When you arrive at the posted coordinates, take note of the stones honoring Revolutionary War patriots. Do not count the center stone, only those in the outer ring. Let A = Revolutionary stones + 1, let B = Revolutionary stones -1, and let C = Revolutionary stones - 2. Now approach the center stone. On one side is a plaque identifying the Memorial Park Committee. Let D = the number of times Athens appears on this plaque - 1.

About This Location

The Athens Parks and Recreation Department operates and maintains the following: the award-winning Athens Community Center, the city pool, a nationally-recognized skate park, and a dog park in this area. At this specific location, is a monument to Athens County residents that participated in the Revolutionary War and a time capsule that was buried in 1976 during the city's bicentennial celebration.
