Geocache Description:

Whipsnade Tree Cathedral, a cathedral of a different sort, a peaceful green space created with different varieties of trees and planted to create wide green avenues forming a nave, chancel, choir, chapels, cloisters, and transepts.

Lime trees line the Nave

The Tree Cathedral was planted between 1931 and 1939 by Mr E K Blyth as an act of "faith, hope and reconciliation" of his memories of World War I. The planting was inspired by a visit to Liverpool Anglican Cathedral during its construction and by the beauty of a group of trees seen on his way home.

Downy Birch (in winter) which form the Chancel

The tree cathedral is a lovely spot to visit no matter what time of year, it is always very quiet and peaceful and in the spring or summer is a great place to come and relax.

Some rare winter sun on the Cloisters

The cache is located just outside the tree cathedral and is accessible at all hours. Parking is available at the free National Trust car park a short walk from the site, which is well signposted from the main road.
