Geocache Description:

St. James' Anglican Church is located near to Shanganagh Park in Shankill.

The main road from Shankill to Bray is a picturesque survivor of pre motor-car days. The road is flanked by old stone walls and the tall, mature trees of the various houses. The effect is particularly striking at Crinken, where St James's Church is to be found set back from the road behind beautiful, Gothic-style, granite gate piers. The church, designed in the English Gothic style, is constructed entirely of granite, and was erected in 1840 at a cost of £2900. The site was donated by the Magan family who lived nearby at Corke Farm. A generous donation of £2000 was made by Mrs Clarke (presumably of Dorney Court) towards the construction of the church, while other patrons included Lord Plunkett of Old Connaught. Maps of the 1820s and earlier indicate the presence of a chapel at Crinken, very close to St James's, but this must have disappeared by the mid-nineteenth century.

To locate the cache, take note of the time of Sunday Praise on the board just behind the railings and call this number AB:

The cache is located at N 53 13.[A+B][A+B+A][A*3] W 006 07.[A+B][B*3][A*6]

The cache is a micro container. The coordinates may jump due to tree cover, so I have provided a generous hint. Parking is at the nearby Shanganagh Park.

I want to place my own Church Micro cache...

The Church Micro IE series is open to everyone; if you have a church you would like to place a cache at then please contact THE_Chris through Geocaching.com. This is to keep track of the numbers of the churches and give you the general format for the cache page. In the UK there are thousands in the series so we have some catching up to do! Also, if you currently have a published cache at a church that you would like to include in the series, get in contact and we can add it.

***** Congrats to the swerve on FTF *****
