Geocache Description:

Not an easy find as it is hidden from the muggle nature lovers eye and hanging out of reach of the squirrel or rodent. Take care to place the cache as found as all muggles to this park are inquisitive with nature and will look hard at things that are a little out of place and not normal.

A 4x4 vehicle is recommended by anyone going to Mana Pools and the road to this cache is sandy and can be very muddy in the rainy season. Access is along the Sapi drive road and is within the park.

If you are visiting Mana Pools you may be privileged to see a Nyala at Sapi pan. Sit still and quietly, take in the beauty of this pan where water fowls are abundant and the secretive, timid, and shy Nyala  may slowly approach for a drink of water.

All visitors to Mana Pools National Park need to make bookings through the National Parks in Zimbabwe, prior to entry, full details are listed below. Costs vary dependent on where and what you are booking for. Rates are subject to change from time to time. You are able to book camping in the main Nyamepi camp site, various self catering lodges, or exclusive camp sites. All fees and rates are shown on the parks web site. Day trips to the Park are possible but please ensure that you plan your trip carefully as the entry road can be very corrugated and or muddy, you may not get there and back in a day! Please ensure you are fully equipped as there are no amenities available. Ensure you have adequate fuel....be organised! Mana pools is the only game park in Africa where you are encouraged to walk. The cache is very close to the road and access is easy to the water hole.

The Nyala  (Nyala angasii) also called Inyala is a spiral-horned antelope native to Southern Africa. It is a species of the family Bovidae genus  Nyala,  also considered to be in the genus Tragelaphus. The body length is 135–195 cm (53–77 in), and it weighs 55–140 kg (121–309 lb). The coat is rusty or rufous brown in females and juveniles, but grows a dark brown or slate grey, often tinged with blue, in adult males. Females and young males have ten or more white stripes on their sides. Only males have horns, 60–83 cm (24–33 in) long and yellow-tipped.

The Nyala is mainly active in the early morning and the late afternoon. It generally browses during the day if temperatures are 20–30 °C (68–86 °F) and during the night in rainy season. As a herbivore, the Nyala feeds upon foliage, fruits and grasses, with sufficient fresh water. A shy animal, it prefers water holes rather than open spaces. The Nyala does not show signs of territoriality, and individual areas can overlap each other. They are very cautious creatures. Old males live alone, but single sex or mixed family groups of up to 10 individuals can be found. These inhabit thickets within dense and dry savana woodlands. The main predators of the Nyala are lion, leopard and Cape hunting dog, while baboons and raptorial birds hunt for the juveniles. Mating peaks during spring and autumn. Males and females are sexually mature at 18 and 11–12 months of age respectively, though they are socially immature until five years old. After a gestational period of seven months, a single calf is born.
