New replacement cache
The cache is placed with the kind permission of the Trustees of Abottsford house
The cache is placed near Abbotsford House which was the home of Sir Walter Scott. It was originally called Cartley Farm which he did a modest expansion in 1811-1812, then did massive expansions from 1815-19 and 1822-24.
He described it as a sort of romance in architecture and a kind of conundrum Castle. Abottsford is festooned with turrets and stepped gabling, windows enriched with the insignia of Heraldry. Inside, suits of armour, trophies of the chase, a library of more than 9000 books, fine oak furniture, panelling of oak and cedar and carved ceilings relieved of coats of arms.
Make sure you visit this category A listed house and cafe while you are here.
The house is open 7 days a week April--October 10am-4pm. Book on-line & save 10%
