Geocache Description:

This pond was made by beavers. Look around and check out all the beaver damage to the trees. Also, check out the architecture of their work and how they made a very small but long “dam” to hold back the water. It is quite amazing.

By creating this pond, the beavers inadvertently made a wonderful habitat for ducks. There are a pair of Mallards that hang out here quite often, as well as a Teal duck. And if you stop and listen, you can hear all different species of birds in this area, including the call of a resident Cooper’s Hawk or Sharp Shinned Hawk!

Hop Brook is a US Army Corps of Engineers park. We have received permission form the Corps to place this cache. The park is open from 8:00 a.m. – about a half hour before sunset. There is a fee $4.00 per vehicle to enter the park (fee booth is open the weekend before Memorial Day to the weekend after Labor Day from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Fee booth attendants and park kiosks usually have maps for you to use.

Check out other caches hidden in the park. We believe there are a few President’s series letterboxes hidden in the park as well.

NOTE: Cache will be available on 5/19/2012 @ 10:00 am as a part of our “Family Fishing and Fun Day” event for National Kids to Parks Initiative. The event will be held at the Pines Shelter in the park. Admission fee to the park will be waived for this event.
