Geocache Description:

Rokugo Bashi is the bridge of the "Daiichi Keihin highway" to cross the Tamagawa River.

"Daiichi Keihin highway" is the main road between Tokyo and Yokohama.
Tokaido in Edo period was along the "Daiichi Keihin highway".
The bridge was built several times, however, it was lost for every flood.
So, most of the time was passing by the ferry called "Rokugo no Watashi".
Currently, Tokaido-line and Keihin Kyuko-line are through the immediate vicinity of the bridge.
Keihin Rokugodote station is the southernmost station in Tokyo.

六郷橋は、東京～横浜の主要道路である第一京浜国道が多摩川を渡る橋で、古くから交通の要衝の地でした。

江戸時代の東海道はほぼ現在の第一京浜国道に沿っており、この地に橋が架けられましたが、洪水のたびに何度も流失し、ほとんどの期間は「六郷の渡し」と呼ばれる渡し船による通行となっていました。
現在、この橋のすぐ近くを東海道本線と京浜急行本線が通っています。近くの京浜急行六郷土手駅は東京都の最南端の駅となります。
