Welcome to the zone where the fresh water of Fish Creek intermingles with the salt waters of Cook Inlet… the estuary. Tread lightly here – your footprint should never be seen.
This boundary zone is a key habitat for fish, migratory waterfowl, and mammals. Fish Creek’s estuary features a varied assortment of shorebirds and ducks, as well fox, moose, and other land mammals. This area has fared better than the rest of the creek in retaining its original wild character. New interpretive displays are planned for installation near the bench west of the bridge to help communicate the estuary’s importance to the overall health of Fish Creek and its residents.
Do not venture off the path on the estuary (upstream) side of the Coastal Trail! The cache is accessed off the Inlet side of the trail, within a foot of the pavement… and don’t move ANY rocks or disturb ANY vegetation in your search! Replace the cache exactly as you found it to minimize the chance of accidental discovery, please. This is the fourth of four caches tracing Fish Creek’s meanderings across our cityscape.
