Geocache Description:

This is a small clip and lock cache container with just log book, pencil and sharpener. Parking is available close by but please note access is by a steep narrow and twisty single track dead end road.

This is yet another series in our favourite range of Welsh mountains, this time at northern end of the range. There are 4 small caches but in addition to these the Moel Ysgyfarnagod cache by Gwyddno could be conveniently included. In our opinion the circuit of the 5 caches would make a great challenging mountain caching circuit for you mad mountain cachers. It is more the terrain and navigational challenges that add to the difficulty not the distance. In particular you will need to carefully choose your route from “Moel Ysgyfarnagod” to “Raven’s Rock” because several vertical crags cut across the NW descent ridge in the area above Llyn Dywarchen. If you choose this circuit you will have the added bonus of seeing the fantastic stone circle “Bryn Cader Faner”.

However if this challenge sounds a bit extreme we have placed the 3 lower level caches in such a way that a shorter circuit, avoiding 2 summit caches and the difficult descent, can be avoided. There is a convenient path that links “ Pyramid Rock” with “Raven’s Rock” which goes close Llyn Eiddew Bach. Bryn Cader Faner is just visible from “Raven’s Rock” and a short there and back detour would give you a chance to see the stone circle.

Whichever circuit you choose please take the usual precautions of taking strong footwear, warm clothing, waterproof clothing, and map and compass. I would not advise doing either of these in mist or low cloud unless you are an expert navigator and anyway you would miss out on the fantastic views.

Mwynhewch/ Enjoy this series especially as it will probably be the last we place for awhile as we will now have our hands (and time) full maintaining our mountain cache series.
It would be great to see some other mountain cache series appearing if anyone is up for the challenge!

Please note there is an honesty box for parking fee of £2 which the landowner gives to the Air Ambulance Fund. It states clearly on the gate if you a not willing to pay to park then do not park here!
