On the 25th May 1989, the inaugural meeting, of what was to become the Isle of Man Astronomical Society, was held in the Creg-ny-Baa Hotel.
In 1996 the Society purchased, from Dr Henry Soper, two fields near Foxdale with a view to building an Observatory. The fields were the site of his 1967 Observatory, from where he took the many meteor photographs which resulted in him being awarded the prestigious British Astronomical Association’s Merlin Medal for his work on meteor spectroscopy through photographs.
The new observatory, completed in 2000, is named The Isle of Man Observatory. It houses a 16" Meade Telescope.
The site has good, dark skies, and an elevation of 195 metres above sea level.
To grab the cache, it's best to reverse into the track. If you drive up the track to see the observatory, you'll have to reverse all the way back down.
