Geocache Description:

St Mary the Virgin is the parish church for the village of Stoke Mandeville.

Please note the the Cache is not located inside the Church grounds

The village appeared in the Domesday Book of 1086, as "Stoches" from the Old English word "stoc" translated as an outlying farm or hamlet. The addition of Mandeville was reportedly first recorded in 1284 at which point the manor held by the Norman de Mandeville family.

The original medieval church of St Marys was condemned in the 1900s. This, the latter red brick parish church remains as the only church in the village apart from the nearby methodist church.

If you would like to investigate the original parish church whilst in the area we would suggest you visit GC7A5A - Forgotten Souls (Bucks) by Dan, Pid & Anna as it's well worth the trip...

The container is a small clip lock box, larger than a micro but which will hold coins and small tbs only. BYOP

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, we would just ask that you let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
