216. The Northern Terminus Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

JoesBar: After 7+ years and over 300 visitors, it was time to take this down. I read recently that there will be construction nearby soon. I don't know how accessible this area would be. Also, the Cleveland Metroparks are moving forward with the development of Canal Basin Park. That project will take a couple years but it will be a great addition to The Flats upon completion. Thanks for all the favorite points.

Geocache Description:

FTF goes to: Plafulotter!

THE BASICS:

  • This cache is located in an urban area. You may encounter homeless people. Use your own judgment and comfort level.
  • The park is open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. year round.
  • Parking is available nearby. There are metered spots, a pay to park lot, and some free street parking on West Ave.

THE COOL STUFF:

This location was the northern terminus of the Ohio and Erie Canal. Lock 44 was the final link in this system. There is a plaque nearby.

You can read more about the canal at this Wikipedia link: The Ohio and Erie Canal

There is also a nearby time capsule, (toward the road), and a nearby benchmark, (on the concrete by the river. Due west.)

plafulotter was FTF. Congratulations!
