Geocache Description:

This cache is located in a city park near Pearl City, IL called Hideaway Park. This park is truly a diamond in the rough. After being closed for several years due to night-time vandalism, it has been reopened this year in great part due to an extensive clean-up effort by the Pearl City Boy, Girl, and Cub scouts. Because of the past problems with vandalism, the daily park hours of 8:00am to sunset are STRICTLY enforced, so plan your hunt accordingly.

More about Hideaway Park: This large wooded park offers 43 acres of timber, grassland and bottomland with picnic and recreation areas. Park facilities include hiking trails, fishing, shelter houses and a canoe launch. (This is an excellent spot to put in a canoe for a 13-mile downstream paddle on Yellow Creek to Krape Park in Freeport.) Winter activities include cross-country skiing and sledding. Restrooms are open for special reserved events only.

Driving directions: Turn South on Block Road from Pearl City Road (a.k.a. County Highway 13). Stay on Block Road for about 1.9 miles (the first 1.5 miles are paved, the last 0.4 miles are well-maintained gravel) to get to the well-marked park entrance. If the gates are closed during regular park hours, feel free to park in the driveway and walk to the cache. This will only add .15 miles to your hike.

The cache: Several of the hiking trails in this park will get you within about 40 feet of the cache at which point you will have to leave the main trail. The cache is a camouflaged sealed container with a logbook, pencil, and several nice starting trade items. Please sign the log, trade fairly, and return the cache to its original location and state of concealment for others’ enjoyment.
