Geocache Description:

* * * * * Update 9-28-09 this cache adopted by bosco7 * * * * *

Located at the cool Founders Park just northeast of downtown Springfield at the corner of Jefferson and Water Street.
This "concrete" park is cool. Everything you wanted or needed to know about the history of Springfield...you can find it right here in Founders Park.
It was formed back in 1992 by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks. And their 1st goal was to preserve this site as a park, celebrating the history of Springfield.
The park sits on .7 acres and is the actual site where the development/settlement of Springfield began, which started with the 1st settlers along the south slope of the park, in which there is a plaque explaining the history of those settlers.
Everywhere you look, there is some large plaque and/or picture associated with the history of Springfield.
Founders park site was previously a stone quarry, a blacksmith shop, a horse collar factory,a railroad right-of-way and the Silsby Stove and Hardware Company.

There are five major areas within the park's boundaries.

* A 250 seat Amphitheater with a 18' by 30' stage, wired for sound and light equipment
* A re-creation of the original spring used by our founders near the site of the park
* An upland woods area depicting the natural hardwood forest which once existed on the site including a 10' by 120' historical mural covering the first 100 years of Springfield's citizens, buildings and local historical events
* A Historical Timeline that describes the growth of Springfield during the first 100 years and how national and international events played a part in the city's development
* An area for native prairie grasses which existed on the nearby Kickapoo Prairie.

The park is lit by a combination of area lighting and Victorian-style pedestrian fixtures. An ornamental seven-foot high steel picket fence provides security for the park.

Every summer weekend, the park plays movies in its 250 seat concrete ampitheater. These movies are themed for "family night fridays" and "date nite" saturdays.
Movies begin at dusk. And they run from July 7-August 26th..and they are FREE.

So, take some time to learn a ton of Springfield history, catch a free summer movie, and/or just simply enjoy....Founders Park!!

Cache container is a VERY LARGE Pill Bottle. So large in fact, i labeled it a "small" cache because you can fit small things in it such as Geocoins, small TB's, bouncy balls, etc. (very small stuff).
Make sure cap is screwed back on tightly, altho i doubt where it is hidden and how i hid it,it should'nt get wet, but just as a precaution, make sure the cap gets screwed back on properly.
PLEASE rehide it back like i have it.
There should be 1 certain "object" in front of the cache, which will be "blocking" the cache.
The purpose of this "object" is to hide it from muggles and to keep it safe and secure so it will stay put out and not be exposed to muggles.
Thats very important, because if someone drops off Geocoins or small TB's and the container gets stolen, i would feel awful that the geocoins and TB's were stolen too.
So PLEASE replace the single "object" in front of it, and push/wedge it against the cache so cache will stay put.
I hid it in a part of the park where i feel there shouldnt be muggles in the immediate vicinity of the cache, but PLEASE kick up the stealth a notch and be discreet, just in case! (so please keep your eyes peeled for muggles)
Good Luck!!
