Geocache Description:

Lake George Regional Park was established in 1992.  The 320-acre park is located on Route 2, on the Canaan / Skowhegan town line.  Plan to spend some time in the park while you’re there.  It is used year ‘round for swimming, fishing, picnicking, snowshoeing, ice fishing, skiing, bird watching, horseback riding, hiking, boating, and even weddings.  There are swimming beaches on both the East and West sides, a doggie beach on the East side, boat launch on the East side, and hiking trails on both sides.  You can get more information about the park and a map of the trail system at www.lakegeorgepark.org

The cache is on the west side of the lake on the Foster Hill trail.  In the off season, or early in the day, you may find the gate closed.  In that case, park at the gate and walk in about 1/3 of a mile to the trailhead.   To find the Foster Hill trailhead, you need to turn left after the first building and walk uphill on an old gravel road.  You will come to two large buildings.  The trailhead is between the two, closer to the first one you come to.  There’s about 240’ of elevation gain, and another 1/4-mile to the cache.  You might notice a letter box right beside the trail, but the cache is about 85 feet in the woods.  Congratulations to GenieCache on first to find.

After you’ve found the cache, turn and go back the way you came, or stay on the Foster Hill trail to the Podooc trail that will take you to the lake shore.  There you can connect to the Fisher Hill trail back to the parking lot for a nice 1.5-mile loop.  Note:  Podooc trail is steeper than the Foster Hill trail, and the Fisher Hill trail along the shore is very rocky and uneven, and right now there are a lot of leaves covering stumps and holes, so be careful.  Not extremely difficult, but not an easy stroll either.

Dogs are allowed during the off season.  They are not allowed May 15 thru September 15.  The park is open sunrise to sunset.
