Györköny is a village with 1100 inhabitants, near the Danube in the north of county Tolna. The first written proof of Györköny dates back to the 13th century. The village was ruined several times through the centuries. Meszlényi János landholder called German settlers to Györköny after the Turkish scourge. Vine-growers came from Hessen and Burgenland between 1718 and 1722. The village takes pride in having an impressive cellar-village with its more than 300 wine-presses. Needless to say this unique village is becoming popular.
A village museum has been set up, the address is:
325 Kossuth Lajos street.
