Geocache Description:

East Leeds Cycle Route – Part 5 - The Final Cache.

The above co-ords are not the correct co-ordinates but are co-ords for a bridge you will cross on your way back. For the full co-ords you need to visit the 4 micro caches in this series to piece together the co-ordinates.

This cache forms part of a series of micro-caches which when completed will give the final co-ordinates for a final cache. They are all spread out along a circular cycle route which is approx 8 miles from start to finish, taking in Pendas Fields, Scholes, Manston, West Garforth and back to the Manston / Crossgates area.

Please take care to re-hide this cache well as without the necessary camouflage it stands out like a sore thumb, you will know what I mean when you find the hiding place.

The series of caches have been specifically put together for this cycle route which I use regularly but could easily be completed on foot in stages or even by car with a little careful planning.

Each Cache in the series can be done as an individual Cache but they all form part of a multi cache to find the correct co-ordinates for the final cache. Each of the 4 micros have ¼ of the final co-ordinates which need piecing together. The final cache is on the circular route somewhere after Part 4 so the whole series can be completed in the same journey without retracing your steps (or wheels!).

The other caches in the series are:
East Leeds Cycle Route – Part 1 - Pendas Fields
East Leeds Cycle Route – Part 2 - Chippy’s Quarry
East Leeds Cycle Route – Part 3 - The Coronation Tree
East Leeds Cycle Route – Part 4 - Motorway Tunnel
East Leeds Cycle Route – Part 5 - The Final Cache

The Cycle Route;
Start at N53/48/622 W001/26/345 Pendas Way, Crossgates. Take the ginnel between the two houses which is an old railway bridge. Turn left and follow the old railway cutting along the back of the houses. Cross Barwick Rd and continue along the old railway up to what is locally known as chippy’s quarry. Turn right at the water and follow the track into Scholes then turn right on the main road through the lower part of Scholes and drop down to the Coronation Tree. Across from the coronation tree is a public bridleway, part of the Leeds country way. Follow the signs for the bridleway ignoring the footpath signs and drop down Barnbow Lane towards Manston. At the end of the track turn left through the Farm (remembering to close any gates behind you).
Now ignore the sign for the Leeds Country way which would take you through a metal style and up a field then over the motorway. Continue ahead instead and take the next right at a derelict house. This track takes you through a round tunnel underneath the motorway and to another farm. At this farm cross the railway lines through the level crossing and follow the track to the end. Now turn right back onto the Leeds Country Way and follow the bridleway through the trees.
At the end of the bridleway cross the bridge over the motorway and follow the signs through the fields dropping down the hill, over the railway bridge in the field and back to the farm at Manston. Now turn left and follow Manston Lane past Vickers tank factory and turn right at the mini roundabout back onto Pendas Way. Roughly around 8 miles circular route altogether. Enjoy!!!
