Navy Army Air Force Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

ex135nav: This cache has had a nice long life. It was initiated with the intent of taking cachers on tour of Tarrant county. The price of gas was quite a bit less back then. Thanks to all who worked it and found the cache. It was especially nice experiencing the exploration with Wee Willy and his human Hikeaday.

This cache was a copycat technique from a cache in Bangor, Maine. There the trip was just around the city rather than the county. (But everything is bigger in Texas.) [;)]

I will now leave the area open to the tent owners or for other cache hiders to use. I have enjoyed this one both setting it up and reading logs.

Thanks to all visitors.

Geocache Description:

Below is a modified Battleship game board that consists of a 5X5 grid. Hidden on the grid are 3 boats, all of which are the ever elusive‚ 2 holed‚ PT Boats, Named PT-1, PT-2, and PT-3. To find the coordinates of the battleship (final cache), you must first locate these 3 PT Boats. Once they are located, you will have to do some slight calculations to obtain the coordinates of the final cache.

To fire a shot, simply visit the location of one of the 25 virtual type targets. There are no cache containers at any of these locations (well, not mine anyway). Determine if the answer to the question for that location is true or false. If the answer is true, it is a hit‚ if the answer is false it is a miss. There is no need to go to all 25 locations, but you will need to find all 3 PT boats in order to obtain coordinates for the final cache.

Once you have determined the position of all 3 PT boats, you will need to determine their orientation and the numbers they represent. Here is all the information you will need to figure the final coordinates:

On the grid, North is "up".
PT-2 is southern most.
PT-1 is more west than PT-3.
All PT boats are either heading south or west.
For translating rows to numbers, A=6; B=7; C=8; D=9; E=0.
The front portion of a PT boat represents the columns (numbers 1-5).
The rear portion of a PT boat represents the rows (numbers 6-0).

Latitude: N 32  (PT-2 front)(PT-2 rear) . (PT-1 front)(PT-1 front)(PT-3 rear)
Longitude: W 097  (PT-1 front)(PT-2 front) . (PT-2 rear)(PT-1 front)(PT-2 front)

The final cache is 48 ounce container hidden within Tarrant County. Please rehide the cache exactly as it was found. It is unlikely you will be seen at the final cache location, but park legally.
