The original settlement of Hebron was named for the Biblical town of Hebron. To be “somewhat precise” (oxymoron <w>), the settlement was established around 1830 at the intersection of what is today FM 3040 (Hebron Parkway) and FM 544 (West Plano Parkway). About 10years ago 544 became or was Charles Street intersected 3040 at the location where the Hebron Baptist Church stands today. A Historical Marker (pictured below )is located in front of the church. This beautiful old church remains operational. Be sure to notice the church as you drive pass on the way to cache #2
Other significant dates are:
Original settlement circa 1843.
1890: Heron got their own post office.
1902: The Red River, Texas and Southern Railway built through the town. This was along 1st Street. In later years, this line would become part of The Burlington Northern; and, currently, the Burlington Northern Santa Fe.
Mid 1970: Incorporated as a city!
