As everyone knows here in Western New York, you never know when your last paddle of the season might be. Mid-October might be about it, or we could all be calling in sick for an unexpected, 70-degree day in early December. But mid-October is getting pretty close to the end of the season. Looks like an early color peak this year, so if Mother Nature cooperates, this should be a great day for a paddle. If Mother Nature doesn't cooperate, we will try again the next day, Sunday October 15.
What: A picnic, with hamburgers and hot dogs provided. You can bring a dish to pass, if you like. No need to go paddling to attend!
What else: New paddle caches to be published the morning of. Also an "Iron Paddle Cacher" race-- not just a sprint past a finish line judge, to see who has a fast hull design and big arms, this will be like paddle caching. Or, maybe like a hyper-competitve FTF run. There will be a prize for the winner, plus a cool TB sticker for everyone who finishes-- even if you think you have no chance of winning, it will still be worthwhile to try.
Where: The public boat launch at Glenwood Lake, on Route 63 just north of Medina.
When: Noon to 3:30, Saturday, October 14, with a rain date for Sunday, the 15th. We'll start cooking at noon, though we'll be there setting up before then. The new caches should go live in the morning, so feel free to arrive early to get a jump start on them. The race will be "about" 2:30. If the weather looks bad Saturday morning, or the forecast Friday night is too depressing, an announcement will be posted.
