Geocache Description:

Cache is a multi-puzzle consisting of three virtual stages and a final physical stage. The final stage is a small container hidden within a larger container. Room for small trade items. Cemetery closes at dusk so PLEASE NO NIGHT CACHING. Cache may take at least 30 to 45 minutes to complete.

This cache is intended to take you on a brief tour of the historic Rockville Cemetery. To complete the cache you need only visit three grave sites to gain the coordinates for the final stage which is located off cemetery grounds. We recommend you set aside extra time to explore and enjoy the beauty and history of the cemetery.

Established in Prince George's Parish during colonial times, the oldest grave marker in the cemetery is from 1752. The cemetery consists of two sections, the older section on the hill was developed in the style of the "Rural Cemetery"or "Garden Cemetery" movement. The newer section down the hill was developed in the more contemporary style of a "Lawn Cemetery". The Rockville Cemetery is a Who's Who of well known names and stories from Rockville and Montgomery County. For more information, see this publication here.

To complete the cache, you'll need to visit three grave sites. Near the graves, you'll find information on adjacent graves to fill in the missing coordinates. When we say "near the graves", the information you need should be on a grave directly surrounding the grave of interest. If you are more than a few graves away from the subject grave, you are too far.

You'll need to visit ALL three graves to not only get the coordinates for the next grave but to collect the coordinates for the final physical cache location. You'll be asked to look at various dates on the tomb stones. Make sure you have the correct birth/death date as well as the day, month or year specified in the question. We have provided Check Sums for each set of coordinates to check your work along the way. Finally, you'll need to cross the creek a couple of times to complete this cache. You can take the driveway which is the easy way or you can take a more direct path through the creek. If you decide to go through the creek, you raise the terrain rating at your own risk. Also note the old part of the cemetery has very steep hills. Take the more gradual longer ways or risk raising the terrain rating here as well. A BIG "thank you" to CacheNCarry45 for the custom-built container we used for the final stage.
