The Marquesses of Queensberry
mausoleum: "The final & funniest folly of the rich"
One of a series of caches in and around the historic Powfoot and Cummertrees area. This multi will take you from Cummertrees Parish Church, on a 1/2 mile walk through tranquil woodland, to arguably the most impressive legacy by the 9th Marquess of Queensberry.
Cummertrees Parish Church
With its original foot print dating back to the 13th century, and originally commissioned by King Robert the Bruce, this now enlarged 18th century church is home to the Douglas Family Mausoleum and is the traditional burial place of the Marquesses of Queensberry.
