Search for a size 3 container hidden in a traditional forest manner. The container is completely covered and should be re-hidden so it is again completely covered. Please park at the very end of Averill Road on the east side. Do not block the gate or park where it says, “Do not park here.”
To get to this geocache: Do all the caches on the road trail as far as the “Snakes” geocache. Then backtrack to reference point N 42 42.635 W 074 56.435 and turn left off the road trail to follow a barbed wire fence also on your left. Or come north from the parking area and turn right at the reference point. Follow along the fence until it turns left up the hill. Then follow your GPS to the geocache. Be careful, there are lots of fallen branches and debris.
Do NOT go inside the barbed wire. There are orange signs which mark the boundary. Beyond the barbed wire lies the SUNY @ Oneonta Biological Field Station (BFS) which for the past 50 years has been studying and protecting the watershed of Otsego Lake.
To keep people out of the BFS, the fence line is guarded on the inside by the not so mythical Beast of Caerbannog. It is reputed to be the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on. It has a vicious streak a mile wide. It’s a killer! Your only hope is a HHGOA.
The container is filled with trophies the beast has taken from each person it has eaten. You may keep an item if you choose. Trade if you want to, but it’s not required.
And most importantly, remember it is your decision whether to attempt a geocache or not. I don’t want to hear any whining in your log. Assuming you are in any kind of condition to actually type anything.
