Geocache Description:

Located 0.15 mi. northeast of Culpepper-Martin #1 (N36 56.300 W108 07.609). Park at the well site and follow your GPS to the cache location. Arid rocky terrain following a lava intrusion provides fairly ready access, however, snakes and spiders may be in evidence.

Cache is a contained in an army decon container (about 4"X4"x1.5"). The container is located in a niche in the lava flow.

The cache contains Sacajawea dollars, pesos, a tightly rolled bandana, the "Dinero" travel bug, and a first finders surprise! Please consider small items to trade (the container is really crowded!)

Easiest access to the cache is found using NM574 (aka Hwy 173-the road from La Plata to Aztec). Go to the intersection with CR 1300. Follow CR 1300 N until you reach N36 56.817 W108 10.109, where you will bear right. Follow your GPS from here. The well location is generally accessable by private auto with four wheel drive uncecessary. The road is unmaintained by San Juan County, so it is a little rough.

This area is a BLM grazing lease and gates may be closed and locked. In the event of locked gates, park at N36 92.350 W108 13.345, which will entail a 2 mile round trip hike. Other routes may be found into this cache.

Warnings:

Arroyos may run during rainy seasons. Don't cross them when running. Snakes, scorpions, black widows, etc. can be found in this area. Please be aware of the wildlife. Bring sturdy shoes and plenty of water.
