Geocache Description:

Start from the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel.

The Canadian Pacific Railway helped open South-East British Columbia with a strategic line through the Rocky Mountains Crowsnest Pass. Cranbrook was the Divisional Head and several original buildings are preserved here. Favoured Fort Steele was bypassed and Cranbrook became the largest city in the Kootenays due largely to the impact of the railway. Colonel Baker, the Member of Parliament who owned much of the land in Cranbrook, convinced the government to change the route so the line would pass through Cranbrook. This route is still vital today with rail traffic flowing in all four directions. Oddly enough the east-west route once again passes through Fort Steele. While here visit this unique museum.

This cache is named for Garry Anderson, the CEO, who has been developing this museum for many years. It’s his vision and dedication that has created Cranbrook’s finest heritage jewel. A virtual visit can be had by visiting www.trainsdeluxe.com. Garry encouraged and supported this cache.
