Well-Balanced Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

redlights: I picked this one up today. I was in the area and figured that this one had had a pretty good run. I mean 4 months shy of five years is good enough.

To solve the puzzle finders had to make each equation follow the law of conservation of mass, meaning that the number of each type of atom on both sides had to be equal. For example:

2 AlCl3 + 3 Na2SO4 --> 6 NaCl + 1 Als(SO4)3 meant that the D = 3 while B = 6.

That led to a light pole next to the "Cheeseburger in Paradise" where the cache was located, hence why it fit into the "Musically Yours" set. Final location N 38° 18.673 W 076° 32.042

Geocache Description:

This cache is NOT at the posted coordinates. While they may give information concerning the series - they have nothing to do with solving this particular puzzle. Also please exercise your best stealth when retrieving and replacing the cache!

I know that some people have probably been wondering when I was going to come out with a puzzle concerning my line of work. Well I finally have done it. That's right a chemistry related puzzle.

While you may be able to get a "well-balanced meal" at one of the establishments nearby, that doesn't have anything to do with solving the puzzle. This boils down to one of the basic things all high school chemistry students have to do BALANCE CHEMICAL EQUATIONS!

First a couple of tips:

1. Remember, when trying to balance equations, you can only change the value of the coefficient in front of the compound.

2. When the equation is balanced, the coefficients should be in their lowest terms.

Now using the following set of equations, you should be able to determine the coordinates that will take you to where this cache is located.

The cache can be found at:

N 38*1A.BCD by W 076* 3E.0FG . Yes because you can not use a zero (0) to balance an equation, I had to give you that one.

Photobucket

This is the first cache in what I hope becomes a series of caches inspired by song titles. I hope to include all genres of music since there are only maybe a couple of styles of music I don't particularly enjoy. While this cache falls into this series, the puzzle itself has nothing to do with music. But if you solve it correctly, and there only one way to solve it correctly, you will know that you are in the right place.
