Geocache Description:

A great cache for the whole family. You can have the kids find this one! Check the pictures first.

This historic momument and observation platform overlooks Port Jervis, NY, Matamoras, PA and the mountains of NJ. In the distance you can also see the highest point in the state of NJ - High Point Monument. I grew up in Port Jervis, and although I live in North Carolina now, my family is here and it's a great place to visit. I just couldn't resist placing a cache here and seeing how many find it. If you're in NC, check out my other caches!

Built in 1933 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, Park Avenue was constructed for the enjoyment of the people of Port Jervis. The CCC also built the observatory which was completed in 1934. Just below the observatory is Grand View Avenue, which was one of the premier housing spots in Port Jervis in the 1940's to 60's. Another fantastic project of the CCC is just up the road north, called the Hawk's Nest, a spectacular road and view of the Delaware River. Worth a quick ride up 3-4 miles.

To find the cache, find the noted coordinates and park in the designated parking area. Check out the view while you're at it. Now, if your good at math and directions, you'll have no problem at all. The road you just pulled off is actually 2 routes. Route _ _ and Route _ _. If you add all 4 individual digits together, you'll come up with a 2 digit number. Now, multiply the resulting 2 digit number by 2 and you have the final number you'll need in a minute.

If you walk up the handicapped ramp, before you come to the stone observation platform, you'll come to a very large tree where the ramp takes a turn to the left. At the very spot the ramp turns left, using the final number you derived above, count DOWNHILL the number of boards on the floor. When you reach that final number board, bingo, you found the 'Treasure'.

This is a small cache with a log book and room for small items only, like coins, small TB's etc. Please be sure to put the cap on tight and place it back in the right spot. Watch for muggles, and have fun.

For FTF....you have a real special treat, a Green Jeep TB!
Happy Searching.
