Geocache Description:

Welcome to the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan, in New York City. This cache memorializes the end of Punk Rock music in our neighborhood. The coordinates bring you near the birth place of American Punk Rock music. Kids will have more trouble and will need close supervision.

If you wish to learn more about local Punk rock bands, waypoints included here will bring you to the location where the club called Country BlueGrass Blues used to be. There is also a waypoint for the Continental, a club where local punk rock bands played and were sometimes joined on stage by punk rock legends such as various Ramones and Patti Smith. When these clubs closed other clubs in the neighborhood stopped presenting live Punk Rock music regularly.
Punk bands would come from around the world to play at the these locations. Tour buses still pull up in front. Punk bands playing locally would plaster the lampposts and street signs in front of these locations with posters and stickers advertising their bands' performances. Punks who couldn't get into these clubs would end up performing on the streets. Many times they would set up across the street from a club, trying to attract an audience. More history here

The cache location is around the corner from CBGB and is a very busy urban area. Particularly in the middle of the night there can be hundreds of muggles streaming by. But, it is where various punks could be found hanging around and playing on the street before and after local gigs. You must keep aware of whats happening on the street at all times (good advice for NYC in general). Be careful opening, this container may break easily.
