Geocache Description:

A nice easy stroll along the Cremorne Point reserve and admire the magnificent view of the Sydney Harbour.

A little history about this area.

In c1832/33, 86 acres of Cremorne Point were granted to a Scottish watchmaker, James Robertson. He built a house at the tip of the point today known as Robertson's Point. Prior to European occupation this foreshore land was inhabited by the Cammeraygal People and they called it Wulworra-Jeung (also spelled as Wul-warra-Jeung). In 1853 the land was sold to James Milson and three years later 22 acres were leased to J.R. Clarke and his partner Charles H.Woolcott, a former Town Clerk of the City of Sydney and resident of Ivycliff at Berrys Bay. They turned it into an amusement park called Cremorne Gardens, after a similar pleasure garden in London. The Gardens opened on Easter Monday, 24th March, 1856, with a display of fireworks. Other amusements, including merry-go-rounds, band music, dancing, archery, quoits and refreshments, were offered for 2 shillings admission charge which included the ferry fare from Circular Quay. The Gardens were not a success however, and closed after six years.

There are a lot of things you can see and do at Cremorne Point Reserve. The Lex and Ruby Graham Gardens, started in 1957 from an Elephants Ear, are protected by The National Trust. Or You can climb down to the lighthouse at Robertson Point but please take extra care with the young ones. There are great places along the western side of the Point near MacCallum Pool for picnics and take in the magnificent view of the Sydney Harbour. You'll also get a chance to see the Cremorne Point wharf that sunk during the rain storm few weeks back which now is under construction.

The cache is a 1.2L Sistema contains a log, a few goodies to get it started, and also to make it more interesting, I've also included a disposable camera. The idea is to let geocachers to have a chance to take a snapshot of themselves at this memorable spot where the cache is hidden. Please REMEMBER to place it back into the clear plastic bag to keep it dry. Once the camera is full, I'll retrieve it and get it developed, then post the photos here.

Due to high muggles factor at this location, please replace the cache precisely as you found it - otherwise it will get muggled. Thank you!
