Ben Franklin Phone Home Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Crazy Aaron: This cache has been fun. The required maintenance is too much for me at this point in my life. A serious bummer. But, fear not, I'll be back one day!

Geocache Description:

This is a five stage multi-cache. It will get you up close to Philadelphia landmarks you've admired only from inside your car as you zip past at 50MPH. This cache starts you in 'tourist central' and is something of an homage to Ben Franklin, Philadelphia's favorite (adopted) son. If you are from Philadelphia, take the opportunity to see the things you've always meant to see. If you are visiting from elsewhere, this is the perfect place to dive right into sightseeing mode.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Arrive at the cache coordinates and you're in the center of Old Philadelphia. Enjoy Independence Mall with its endless opportunities for sightseeing. The Liberty Bell, The Bourse, Constitution Center, US Mint, Duck Tours, Horse-drawn carraige tours, bus tours, Lights of Liberty, Independence Hall and various public green areas are all within a two block radius from this point.

When you arrive at the posted coordinates, why not reach out and touch someone? Find a 10 digit number and add 6,615,173,562 to it. That should get you started.

SOME TIPS:

1) Stage four of this cache can only be completed between 6AM and 7PM (seven days a week)

2) Bring pen, paper, and a calculator. You'll need to do some math to find your offset coordinates.

3) No matter where you are coming from, it is easiest to get to arrive at this cache on foot. The cache itself is all walking (or biking) so a vehicle can be a definite burden. Let me spell it out: I want you to enjoy a nice walk in the city ;-) Also, there are many public transit options available.

4) Depending on how much sightseeing, side trips, and greenspace relaxing you'll do when you get here, this multi-cache can take between 2 hours (minimum) or an entire day. To complete this five stage multi-cache requires a minimum of 5.5 miles of urban walking (roundtrip).

Unfortunately it is not handicap accessible. NOTE: You cannot drive to some of the stages. You can safely do it on a bike (non-motorized of course!).

5) Seek this cache on a beautiful day. You will thank yourself. Also, bring your camera. This hunt offers hundreds of great photo opportunities. Don't miss them! If you decide to seek this cache in the wintertime or in inclement weather you will kick yourself.

6) You could choose to do the first few stages of this cache (not too much walking) and not complete this cache (a lot of walking) and still feel fulfilled. You can log this as a note but not as a find.

7) Bring a pen and paper. It will be very difficult if you don't have these items. If you are terrible at calculations in your head, a calculator (the one in your phone is fine) might be helpful.

8) I try to hide stages in obvious places to minimize muggle curiosity while you go about your hunt.
