Mount Vernon Parks Department works in conjunction with the Mount Vernon Downtown Association to preserve and showcase Historic Downtown. Because of the relatively small area that it takes up, it is already saturated with existing caches. This event is a Hodge Podge of caching styles and a opportunity to gather, show off your toys, and meet other cachers. For those so inclined, a small assortment of non loggable caches have been placed in the downtown corridor. These are traditional caches, puzzle caches, mystery caches, and some other fun things ending with a night cache. The caches themselves cannot be logged. Participants who successfully log all of the caches are awarded a 'token' of our appreciation, as well as a head start fo those planning on attending the MV Parks Geocoin challenge the following Saturday.
The event:
Check in at the Farmers Co-op located on the S/E corner of S 1st and W Division St (or follow the coordinates for this event). The meet and greet social is from 7-9pm on the second floor of the deli. You will receive your clue book which contains hints and coordinates for the various downtown caches. There is a night cache using fire tacks, so be prepared. If you log all of the special caches, bring your logbook with you on Saturday to receive your prize. If you are not attending the Saturday event, please email us so we can make alternative arrangements to deliver your prize. Sunset is at 9:16pm.
The Night Cache:
We have decided to use ultra bright white fire tacks. These are visible well before dark. The brighter your light, the easier and earlier you can find them. The weather report (as of 6/19/14 @ 8am) shows overcast with a 20% chance of rain. That should help making them visible earlier.
Parking:
If the designated parking lot fills, feel free to park anywhere along S 1st. There is quite a bit of parking on the south east side of the Food Co-op, or west of Tri Dee. Parking is free!
