Geocache Description:

The cache is placed in the area just below this local landmark.

A ruined former stronghold of the Turnbulls, Fatlips Castle stands on Minto Crags near the River Teviot in the Roxburgh district of the Scottish Borders, between Hawick and Jedburgh.

The "Castle" was built in the 16th century and occupies a prominent position 730 feet high perched upon a rocky crag overlooking the wonderful Teviot valley. Built for the Turnbull family a few centuries ago it was given the name Fatlips on account of the fullness of the pucker of the Turnbulls when they greeted their guests with a kiss.

Suggest parking at N 55 28.709 W 002 39.484 and follow the track up and take the right at the Y junction and continue up the steeper path.

Dogs can be taken on the walk but would put on leads nearer to the top as there are some sharp drops if you visit the castle itself. Children should also be kept away from the edge.

I would strongly advise against entering the castle itself, although it is possible, due to the fact that there is a lot of fallen masonry inside.
When we went to hide the cache we did plan on putting it nearer to the castle but after poking around we found army rations hidden in all the good places so decided to look elsewhere. It may be that you want to have a look for a bit of extra fun!

The cache is hidden in an area where there are a lot of large boulders which you pass on the way up to the castle. There are also some fallen trees nearby. In the cache are the a selection of goodies:
Puzzle
Scented Candle
Finger Paints
Highlighter Pen
5m Measuring Tape
Calculator
Tape Dispenser
Yo-yo

Also in the cache are 2 Travel Bugs - the Rubber Chicken Man and Spanish Olympic Sailing so help them on their way.

Happy hunting
