Geocache Description:

Devil's Bridge is in a beautiful area on the Atlantic side of Antigua.

Devil's Bridge is a natural stone arch over water than you used to be able to walk over. How exciting it is depends on how rough the sea is. The name comes from the tale that it was a popular site for suicide by slaves. Slaves could not swim, so although in calm weather in doesn't look too difficult, in practice a slave who jumped from the arch would almost certainly drown or be dashed to death on the rocks. This geocache is near the site of a previous cache that has been archived as it was lost, presumably in storms as it was too near the water's edge.

We tried to find a safer place that was well above even storm tides but it became clear that it was still in too un-protected a place. We therefore changed the site in April 2007 to somewhere close by that is more protected and less visible to non-geocaching visitors. We hope that it does better in its new location.

It is in a popular tourist spot so be careful retrieving and replacing the cache.

Warning
A representative from the Antiguan Ministry of Tourism has told us that they do not want people actually walking over the Devil's Bridge because it is cracking and showing signs of weakening.
