05-Dowagiac Creek Kayak Cruise Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Tsmola: The most recent trip down the Dowagiac River reported that series in exceedingly bad shape. I briefly considered keeping this open a while longer, but reviewing the recent logs again, I've decided the time has come for this series as well.

Again, I apologize to everyone who didn't get the chance with these. I kept them open much longer than I planned on. But there are now much nicer kayak trails you can go and do in the SW Michigan area. I'd rather people didn't waste any more time on caches that are broken and missing.

To everyone who visited thank you for all the memories on both sets of caches!

Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Dowagiac Creek Kayak Cruise! This series of caches stretches along a lesser used, and slower section of the Dowagiac River About 2.5 miles to Twin Lakes Road near Dowagiac. This series can only be done via watercraft, I recommend a kayak or canoe. The river is small and extremely slow-running in this section which should make it easy for new and experienced paddlers alike. You'll paddle through quiet farm fields, under train bridges and through quiet stretches of woods along this river. I placed the caches in this series to be done without having to leave your watercraft. Sign/replace right in the boat. Make sure you bring a pen and tweezers or a small length of wire to help get the logs out of the caches easier. Most are simply hanging on branches right over the river. Initials only are fine on the logs. There are hints for every cache to help you out as well. There are a few roadside spots you can start your journey from, but I recommend the quiet dirt road where my Middle of Nowhere cache is located. If you park at this location, please do not block the farmer's access paths to the fields!

Bring some water/snacks, you are in for a long paddle. I recommend doing this with a few other cachers and parking a vehicle around Twin Lakes Road down stream or you will end up with a 5 mile round trip paddle to complete all 25.
