Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden close to Haukelandstunet. Most buildings of this farm still exists today, but is today used for concerts, weddings and other get-togethers.

Romsa is a group of islands between the Bjoa- and Skånevik-fjord in Sunnhordland. The islands, as most other islands along the coast, to be inhabited (for hundreds of years). At most the islands were divided into nine independant farms. After the war people started leaving the island and in 1960, when the last remaining person on Romsa left, the new owners planted trees almost everywhere, to do research on argicultural production. It was not until 1996-97 that the islands got back to its former itself, as the planted forests were cut down.

In 1990 the islands were granted the status of being an public, outdoor recreation area. The islands have since then been a popular destination for those travelling with boats in the region. The islands offer nice swimming and fishing, as well as well maintained harbours. There are still several buildings remaining and these can be rented by contacting ‘Nord-Rogaland og Sunnhordland Friluftsråd’. Nice paths take you to different places on the islands. The eastern part of Stora-Romsa, the largest of the Romsa-islands, you’ll find Norway’s largest, protected , holly tree forest.
