Independence Monument, Maidan Nezalezhnosti
PLEASE NOTE: As of June 8, the monument on Maidan is within the Euro 2012 "Fan Zone". Access to the area is controlled (from what I've heard, they check you aren't taking in drinks, sharp objects, etc.; sounds a bit like airport security), but entry is still open & free. I was down to the opening game Friday night and it was not too crowded, especially around the monument since there was not a good view of the big screen from there. If Saturday night is the same, there shouldn't be a problem holding the event under the monument as planned (and it also may occur between the two matches). So hopefully we won't need the backup location on the other side of the square at the arch over the old city gate.
A flash mob is an event where a group assembles, does something, and disperses in a short period of time. On June 9th at the same time all around the world, cachers will be having flash mobs to celebrate geocaching. You can visit the bookmark links to see where they are happening. Come out and join the one being held in Kyiv!

The site will be under the Independence Monument on Maidan. If the monument is closed off due to the Fan Zone for some reason, meet on the other side of Khreshatik Street by the arch over the old city gate at N 50° 27.060 E 30° 31.373 (very near GC1E487 - "Another View of Maidan").
The flash mob will start at 8p.m.; look for Island1988 under the monument carrying a GPS and discretely holding a partially rolled banner with the Geocaching logo on it. Bring your own GPS as well to make yourself more easily recognizable to others. There will be a limited number of event buttons given out to the first people to show up, a log will be passed around to be signed, and at 8:10p.m. we will take a group picture before dispersing at 8:15p.m.. There will also be a special Groundspeak "souvenir" added to your profile when you log your attendance at the event, but you must submit your log by June 12 to receive it.
I hope to see some locals and perhaps some out of town cachers there!
