Geocache Description:

This geocache is located along the old Appin road and is around 5 meters to the left of the track hidden in the rubble. You cannot park right on the highway adjacent to the cache. There are several options to park with the closest being the attached waypoint. From the attached waypoint it is around a 450 meter walk to the cache.

The 23rd Australian Scout Jamboree was located in Maryborough, Queensland during January of 2013. Around 11500 Scouts gathered for a two week adventure away from home. I was fortunate enough to attend this Jamboree as a scout in troop H26 comprising of six troops (Keiraville, Balgownie, Korrahill, Bulli, Thirroul and Helensburgh) from the South Coast and Tablelands region (SCAT). Younger members such as Joeys and Cubs are able to visit as day visitors, especially on Future Scout Day (Market Day), where games and stalls are set up by the Scouts attending the Jamboree. Older members (Venturers and Rovers) also attend the Jamboree to assist with activities and other tasks. The 2013 Jamboree had the theme of "Dream It Live It", with an emphasis on learning from physical challenges, helping mates, and making a positive contribution to the community. Jamboree activities are a mixture of on-site and off-site activities that seek to challenge the participants, reinforce Scouting values, provide valuable and new experiences, and most of all, be great fun. On-site activies included:

     •Orienteering                                                                                         •Ball sports

     •Challenge Valley (obstacle course)                                                     •Geocaching

     •Construction/woodwork                                                                       •Circus skills

     •Climbing wall                                                                                       •Flying Fox

     •Abseiling                                                                                              •Water slides

     •Live entertainment

Staging the jamboree is a huge logistical challenge. Some of the numbers include:

    •    114,000 eggs                                                                •1400 kilograms of pasta

    •    22,500 loaves of bread                                                 •700 tins of Milo

    •    48,900 litres of juice                                                      •1000 gas bottles

    •    340,000 snack bars                                                       •550 eskies

    •    6510 kilograms of baked beans                                    •16000 bags of ice

This series of caches has been placed to celebrate each Scout Jamboree held in Australia. It has been hidden to coincide with the 24th Australian Jamboree being held at Cateract Scout Park during January of 2016. The Australian Scout Jamboree is a massive camp for Scouts which is held every three years by Scouts Australia and are for members of the Scout Section aged 11 to 15 years of age. Other sections such as Venturers, Rovers, and Leaders also go along to run/lead activities. The 2016 Australian Jamboree (or AJ2016) is the 24th Australian Jamboree, where over 12,000 Scouts will converge to Cateract Scout Park, to camp for 2 glorious weeks of fun, fantastic adventure and friendship. There will be onsite activities such as abseiling, BMX riding, a high ropes course, climbing wall, challenge valley, etc. Offsite activities include tours of Sydney, visting a theme park, and flying.

I have included some scouting badges, so feel free to swap with some of your own. I own a larger cache (10th Australian Scout Jamboree) will will accommodate larger swaps. Have fun!
