Geocache Description:

The cache is accessible most times of the year, though winter may require a further walk, as portions of the park are closed. A Michigan Recreation Passport or a daily park permit are required if accessing the cache from within the State Park.

This cache is located on a connection portion of the River Raisin Heritage Trail. The cache may be accessed by parking at the trail head in Sterling State Park or by accessing the park from Elm Avenue near the River Raisin Heritage Trail sign.  The shortest distance is the lot nearest the foot bridge and the longest distance is from Elm Avenue.

Hidden in a potentially very high traffic location this cache will require a lot of stealth. Physically reaching the cache may require a slight level of skill and is not recommended for small children or those who are wheelchair bound.

The cache itself is large enough to house multiple trackables, a log book and multiple swag items.

To get this one moving, we have included a few items for trade or just to take, we have also included a log, pencil and pen.

The location of this cache is important to my son and I because this was how we would always access the state park's trail system prior it's connection to the Heritage Trail in 2011. We would, and still do, walk, ride bikes and use our inline skates on the trails while taking in the views of the lagoons, lotus flowers and wildlife. Depending on your choice of location to begin your trek to this cache, you may encounter deer, turtles, raccoons, snakes, and an assortment of other varied wildlife.

Interestingly, William C. Sterling State Park is Michigan's only state park on Lake Erie. With that said, the park does charge admission fees, but accessing the trail system from Elm Avenue by either foot or bicycle is free.

Please enjoy our first cache and be sure to sign the log book. We'd also appreciate comments added to your online log regarding your journey, either short or long, to this cache!
