Geocache Description:

This culvert gets flooded often, the work we do on it is constant. You’ll notice there are several pillars of rocks in metal netting. These are called gabians. They are used to divert water and slow it down when flows get too high. They can be very effective, but any time we play with water diversions, the water has a mind of its own and will change its course after a while!

Easy to get to when waters aren’t too high.

Hop Brook is a US Army Corps of Engineers park. We have received permission form the Corps to place this cache. The park is open from 8:00 a.m. – about a half hour before sunset. There is a fee $4.00 per vehicle to enter the park (fee booth is open the weekend before Memorial Day to the weekend after Labor Day from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Fee booth attendants and park kiosks usually have maps for you to use.

Check out other caches hidden in the park. We believe there are a few President’s series letterboxes hidden in the park as well.

NOTE: Cache will be available on 5/19/2012 @ 10:00 am as a part of our “Family Fishing and Fun Day” event for National Kids to Parks Initiative. The event will be held at the Pines Shelter in the park. Admission fee to the park will be waived for this event.
