How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

The cache is located on the summit of a Middle Palisade in the Sierra Nevada. This peak has an elevation of 14,040 ft and was first climbed by Francis Farquhar and Ansel F. Hall on August 26, 1921.

The objective is to locate the summit register. There are special instructions written on the outside of the lid of the container. In order to log this cache you must make a note of these instructions and email them to me. You will also see our log entries if you turn to the page for August 10, 2001.

Warning: This cache should only be attempted by people with mountain climbing experience. You can expect to spend 2-3 days in the backcountry and encounter 3rd class rock climbing and snow climbing. A helmet is essential for this climb, and other equipment such as ice axe, crampons, and rope may be needed depending on conditions and climber ability.

This was the first of only thirteen 5 Difficulty/5 Terrain Virtuals published before Virtuals were grandfathered out in 2005. It remains the oldest 5/5 Virtual in the world.
