Geocache Description:

This multi-stage hunt starts at one of the best Pizza places in Boone, NC and ends up high on a mountain with a grand view of the Appalachians. Over 99% of the cache hunt is via roads with the final leg being off trail. For this short but challenging hunt you will need a good road map/atlas, GPS, good car, an afternoon and an empty stomach...if you like pizza.

FIRST: Locate the listed coordinates. Then follow the below directions to locate the final cache.

CACHE ACTION: Upon arrival at the target coords. answer the below questions to reveal the next set of coordinates and continue on your way to the cache. You do not have to go inside to answer the questions but I suggest you do because the food is excellent!

Action #1: Locate the three digit building number of the Pizza Restaurant (above the door). Input the last digit in the last blank space in the Longitude West below.

Action #2: Using the same three digit building number subtract two from the middle digit and input the remaining number into the remaining blank space to reveal your next location.

N 36 16.68__

W 081 43.66__

CACHE ACTION: Now you will need to locate "Tater Hill Rd." for easiest access to the next location.

NOTE: Once you have located the next target location you will know you are at the correct spot if you feel the urge to quench your thirst...feel free, the water is safe here. Now, continue with the hunt...

Action #1: Locate the orange and white buried cable marker. On it is a "call before you dig" phone number. Write that number, minus the area code, here: __ __ __- __ __ __ __

Action #2: Input the third number into the second blank space of the longitude west.

Action #3: Input the first number of the phone number into the remaining blank space to reveal your next location.

N 36 13.828

W 081 40.5__ __

CACHE ACTION: Running the ridge to your next location you will drive on pavement and dusty gravel roads that pass through some beautiful high country--but be careful on these narrow, curvy roads--especially in the winter.

Soon you will come to the end of the road. When the park is open you will be at a parking-lot. When the gate is closed gate the park is closed, DO NOT ENTER.

Pay heed to the sign as you enter the park:
NOTICE: Park Gate closes at 7:30pm
Vehicles remaining in the park will be locked in
until 8:30am the next morning.
Persons remaining in the park
after closing are subject to being
arrested for trespassing

Walk to the fence, enjoy the view then follow these directions:

At the target coordinates, near the edge of the cliff, on the ground, locate the symbol seen in the attached photo (you may want to print copies of the pictures out for later reference).

To the right of the symbol about five feet away find an inscription with a date. NOTE: Some of the information is missing, the name is no longer there and part of the date is missing, there are two digits still there..

A =: first digit in the YEAR (two digit year)

B =:The second digit in the YEAR (two digit year)

N 36 13. A B 0

W 081 40. 5 9 4

This will reveal the final resting place of the cache.

CACHE ACTION: To locate the cache you will need to first locate the target coordinates.

Once there, locate the large Oak Tree growing out of the rocks, in the attached picture.

The cache is in a standard ammo can. Please re hide the cache exactlyas you found it -- thanks.

Best of luck.

NATURE NOTE: In this area live several rare and unique plants and animals. Please tread lightly and quietly to avoid any damage to this rare and beautiful area. Stay on the trails and well worn rocks. Do not try to climb the rock faces because it will damage the fragile lichens that grow here and you may fall to your death.

WILD-NOTE: In the warmer months you may see several different forms of wildlife here. Please treat them with the respect that they deserve as they are all protected from harm--snakes included. If you see a snake please do not harm it--just take a photo and post it here, thanks!

Remember! This is a WILD area with all of its components: live wild creatures(that may hurt you--oh my!), mud, dirt, scat(fresh and sun bleached...the fresh will be accompanied by a rather unpleasant odor so WATCH OUT! Often, if you poke a stick at scat, fresh works best, just the right way you will be able to determine what type of creature left it there and just what that creature had eaten for its last meal!! WOW-ain't nature great!), uneven ground, rough surfaces (that may abrade your skin), heat, cold, wet water (that becomes hard and cold in the colder times and OH MY -- this will often fall unpredictably from the sky and if you are not prepared it will make you and your coverings WET!! See: Weather below), dryness(may also chap exposed skin), rocks (watch out for these things--you may trip on them and fall !), plants (some you can eat and some will make you itch and bleed), sand (that makes you itch if you get it in your nether-regions), pollen (a by-product of the above plants that may make some of you sneeze, itch and cough), wind (that may chap exposed skin and disturb carefully placed hair), air (this could be anywhere from hot to warm or cool to cold), weather (a combination of many of the factors present here. This is entirely unpredictable unless you believe what the National Weather Service tells you), light and dark (and all the shades in between), unpredictable sounds created from unknown sources (some of these may be pleasant...but sometimes not...and they will hurt your ears!), sometimes you will see a very bright disk overhead (but don't look directly at it as it will damage your eyes. It may also cause red burns on your exposed skin so bring your protective devices and chemicals), often there is a lack of light accompanied by a glowing disk in the sky that is pleasant to look at...and much more! Just remember: there will be plenty of random unplanned events that you will encounter on this hunt and on any venture you take into the natural world--so be ready for them as they are the things that make life worth living!

NOTE: During the dead of winter when there is snow/ice on the roads, you may not be able to get to this cache except by foot or with a good 4-wheel or all terrain type vehicle.
