This cache is being placed as a memorial to Borders Books & Music.
I got the idea for what will became a series of 16 caches from my wife's former workplace. She was employed at Borders Books & Music in Bridgewater, NJ, from 2002 through 2006. Borders, of course, was one of the United States' two largest brick and mortar bookstores. However, due to overexpansion, bad management, and the surge of Amazon as a book purveyor and e-book leader, Borders was forced into Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The owners were unable to find a buyer for the company, and all its retail locations closed by September 2011.
In order to honor the memory of the good times both she and I had here, I'm going to begin placing a series of caches at each of New Jersey's retail locations.
The cache is a magnetized Altoids-like container with some small trade items. The initial stash includes the following: a Where's George dollar for FTF; a Pathtag from FTF Geocacher magazine; a magnet; a bottle opener; a Garden State Parkway toll token; an old coin from the opening of Turner Field in 1997; an encased US postage stamp; and a pencil stub and pencil sharpener.
The hiding place is generally out of the sight of most muggles, but always be aware of your surroundings.

Edit 18 May 2012: Found out this morning that the store here has been purchased by DSW Shoe Warehouse. No opening date has been announced. There may be increased muggle activity at this site now.
