“OHIO SPIRIT
QUEST”
The Ohio Spirit Quest series of geocaches will
take you to a number of historic cemeteries built by Buckeye
Pioneers. This series is inspired by and a continuation of the
Indiana Spirit Quest caches created by Six Dog Team. In just over
three years, the SPIRIT QUEST has grown to over 550 caches, with
the hiding teams growing as well. The Ohio Spirit Quest has begun
to grow with seven current hides in one Northwest Ohio county, with
four current caching teams, three each with A Man and His
Dog... and one with A Woman and her Dog. Over 1,000 cachers have logged over 25,000 finds. One cache
machine found 111 ISQ caches in a single day (daylight hours
only).
Come with us now for a virtual tour of this old burial ground
via this page, then go out and find the cache!

OHIO SPIRIT QUEST
#006
”Return of the Hoosiers"
This is our sixth Ohio cache. Listen to what
the SHADOW has to say:
Welcome to Eagle Creek
(Heritage) Cemetery, Superior Township, Williams County,
Ohio.
This is a mid-size cemetery
that appears to be no longer active. It sits on top of the hill at
a road intersection. As it's quite open, there is a nice view of
the surrounding area. The only distraction is the traffic sounds
from nearby I-80.
There is no sign or
anything to give us a clue as to this one’s origin. Maybe It was a
township or church cemetery. There are quite a few graves from the
Rainey family here…
There are several Civil War
veterans’ tombstones here and at least two of WWII veterans. It is
odd that there are no government style markers for any Civil War
veterans, just for the WWII fellas.
---THE
SHADOW
THE SHADOW Knows
There are a number of Civil War vets here, as identified by the
flagholders near their tombstones. Among them are Jacob B. Canaga,
a Corporal in Co. H, 38th Ohio; John Bailey (one of the 40 John
Baileys that served in Ohio Regiments, we presume); Samuel Bloom
(Was he Samuel K. Bloom of Co. K, 163rd Ohio (National Guard) or
Samuel L. Bloom of the 121st OVI or someone else?); John Rainey
(One of the four that served in Ohio regiments?); Alva J. Wert, a
private in Co. A, 12th Ohio; Edmond H. Crawford (probably the one
that served in Co. B of the 196th Ohio, and not the Edmond Crawford
that served in the U.S. Colored Troops; Edward Bonher of Co. A, 2nd
Michigan; and Josiah Boyer ((probably one of the two that served in
the OVI).
The cache container is a
small plastic box. -- BYOP. Park with Extreme
care.If you find a fallen US flag, please stick it back
in the ground. As always, please be respectful, and cache in,
trash out. Pray for our Soldiers, Marines, Sailors,
CoastGuardsmen and Airmen in harm's way this hour. All photos
