A museum.
The Eddie Mae Herron Center is many things: a museum, an education
center, a community center, and a heritage and culture center. The
center serves as a great source of pride for the descendants of
people who grew up worshiping and attending school in this
building. The Center works as an active community center, with
regular planned events to bring people together for fun, for
fellowship, and for education. The Center preserves and displays a
portion of nearly two hundred years of African American history in
Randolph County, Arkansas, through photographs, displays, books and
the spoken memories of the people who grew up around the old
building and now care for it. The Center works to tell the story of
the African American past in the county, preserving that heritage
for future generations of the local African American community and
the county as a whole. Check out this website to obtain information
on dates and times of special events at the center to more enhance
your visit. You may want to plan your visit around these events.
