Meet from 10-10:30am at the posted coordinates, a trailhead for the Cedar River Trail near Maple Valley. At 10:30am, those who wish can take a ride on the trail south to the Green to Cedar Rivers Trail.
Starting off year 6 in a series of events along the many mostly flat, mostly paved biking/walking trails in the Seattle area. This time we'll be riding the length of the Green to Cedar Rivers Trail, aka the Cedar to Green River Trail, aka The Lake Wilderness Trail, along with a short section of the Cedar River Trail that connects to it. I'm not certain if the trail is paved, as it is a work in progress, but any gravel sections are likely fine with all but the skinniest tires.
Per geocaching.com event guidelines, the actual event is the meet-up from 10-10:30am at the posted coordinates, which is a parking lot off Highway 169 near Highway 18. Parking is plentiful here.
This event is outdoors, but I will only cancel this event if the weather is terrible: heavy rain, lightning/thunder, snow or ice. Bring a waterproof layer if it might rain, and enough layers/gloves/etc to ward off any cold.
Information for the ride:
We'll be riding from the meet-up point south on the Cedar River Trail to the north end of the Green to Cedar River Trail, and then to the end of the Green to Cedar River Trail and back. Route map is here: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=7299012 The route steadily gains a few hundred feet over the course of five miles. Along the way we will pass by Lake Wilderness Park. The trail currently peters out south of Kent-Kangley Road, but the plan is to extend it to the Green River. See https://www.kingcounty.gov/services/parks-recreation/parks/trails/regional-trails/popular-trails/green-to-cedar.aspx
Near the end of the trail we will hit a commercial section, so you can grab some food or drinks there. If the weather is good we should pedal back to Lake Wilderness and eat lunch there.
Please show up well before 10:30 so we can leave on time. Check your brakes and air beforehand if you will be biking.
Participants in the optional bicycle ride hold harmless the cache owner/event organizer and assume all risks and responsibilties involved in riding a bicycle on trails and streets. Wear a helmet, dress in layers, and bring a spare tube.
