Geocache Description:

Log only cache on a popular route with a lot of Keys flavor.

**PLEASE BE DISCREET SO THE CACHE DOESN'T GET MUGGLED!**

1968 was a heck of a year, with everything from the Tet Offensive in Vietnam to the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Bobby Kennedy. Dr. Spock was indicted for encouraging kids to avoid the draft. Hair debuted on Broadway and The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band was a winner at the Grammys. It was a time of student protests, sit-ins, Yippies and Black Power, with chafing and rebellion against “the man” and the status quo. There was also “peace and love” and a revived social consciousness as Apollo 8 orbited around the moon.

The Conch Republic has always retained some of that ‘60s attitude, drawing to it folks who prefer to color, at times, outside the lines. This cache is planted in recognition of that spirit. The location is a popular hang-out for locals of all types—from teenage revelers to nature lovers, fishermen and families, with the very occasional nudist thrown in. The signs say “open from sunrise to sunset” and “no jumping from bridge”. The graffiti changes regularly with a vibrant commentary of its own.

This is a great place to hike with your dog (though you might meet many others both on and off leash) and is also a popular place to bike. No motorized vehicles are allowed. The trail is generally paved but can be rough and muddy in spots and you will definitely be sloshing through after a heavy rain. It’s a short 1/3 mile or so to the cache, and there are several other caches to find if you choose to continue along the route.

This cache is a small, log only type (about 2” x 3”). Please bring your own pen.

>>>>Since this is such a popular spot, stealth may be especially challenging. Please be discreet and do your best to leave the cache as you found it so that it doesn’t get muggled.

We hope you will enjoy this popular hideaway and have fun caching in the Florida Keys!

***CONGRATULATIONS TO MtElmo FOR BEING FIRST TO FIND!!***
