A Nagy-Somlói borvidék, Magyarország legkisebb területű történelmi borvidéke a Bakony hegység nyugati lábánál, de már a Kisalföld síkságából kiemelkedő Somló szoknyáján helyezkedik el.
Sokan a somlói borokban érezhető ásványos, olykor szinte sós ízt is a vulkanikus talajnak tulajdonítják.
A leggyakoribb szőlőfajták az Olaszrizling, a Juhfark (ami az egész világon szinte kizárólag ezen a borvidéken terem), a Furmint, és a Hárslevelű. Ez utóbbi két fajta elsősorban a Tokaji borvidékről ismert, de Somlón is kiemelkedően szép borokat adnak.
Juhfark: a Nászéjszakák bora: A Habsburg-időkben alakult ki az a szokás, hogy a hercegek az esküvőt követő nászéjszakán Somlói Juhfarkot fogyasztottak, abban a reményben, hogy a bor növeli az esélyét annak, hogy fiú utódjuk fog születni. Érdekesség, hogy a statisztikák szerint évtizedek óta a Somló környékén több fiú születik, mint lány….
A szőlő maga a nevét a fürtformáról kapta. A szüret közeledtével a fürt alsó része elkezd visszafelé fordulni. Úgy néz ki, mint egy juhnak a farka.

The Nagy-Somló wine region, the smallest historical wine region in Hungary, is located at the western foot of the Bakony Mountains, but already in the skirt of Somló, which stands out from the plains of the Little Plain.
Many also attribute the mineral, sometimes almost salty, taste to the volcanic soil in Somló wines.
The most common grape varieties are Olaszrizling, Juhfark (which is grown almost exclusively in this wine region worldwide), Furmint, and Hárslevelű. The latter two varieties are mainly known from the Tokaj wine region, but Somló also produces outstanding wines.
Juhfark: the wine of the Wedding Nights: In Habsburg times, it became customary for the princes to consume the Juhfark of Somló on the wedding night in the hope that the wine would increase the chances of a son being born. It is interesting that according to statistics in the Somló area more boys have been born for decades….
The grape itself got its name from the cluster form. As the harvest approaches, the lower part of the cluster begins to turn backwards. It looks like a sheep's tail.
